Before the rise of modern cities and global infrastructure, the United Arab Emirates was shaped by desert landscapes, coastal settlements and a strong Bedouin heritage. Communities relied heavily on pearl diving, fishing, trading and livestock, with deep cultural values centred around hospitality, resilience and family.
From ancient trade routes linking Asia, Africa and Europe to traditional dhow boats and tribal settlements, the foundations of today’s UAE were built long before the discovery of oil.
